Leisure centre: Hello. How may I help you?

Jim: Good morning, madam. My name is Jim Brown, and I was just wondering if you still accept any new members to the clubs at your leisure centre.

Leisure centre: Of course we do. The registration is all the year round. What club are you particularly interested in, Jim?

Jim: The thing is, I don't know. I guess I'm just bad at time management. I've got so much time on my hands, and I don't know how to spend it.

Leisure centre: Don't you think you should probably devote more time to your school?

Jim: Not really. You see, I'm a good student, and I only have excellent marks. It's just easy for me to study, and my homework doesn't take me long.

Leisure centre: Okay, that was important for me to find out your joining the club will not interfere with your academic results. Then my first question is back. What do you enjoy doing, Jim?

Jim: Well, I used to be interested in sports. I did karate and weightlifting. I still do a couple of sessions per week to keep in shape, but that's it.

Leisure centre: I see. Anything else you like to do?

Jim: Well, I'm quite fond of reading books and watching films, but everybody does that, don't they?

Leisure centre: Yes and no. You may read a book or watch a film, and even like it, but forget it in a couple of weeks, as you have missed some really important ideas from it.

Jim: How could I not understand the book I like?

Leisure centre: You see, every book or every film is a reflection of some certain time and epoch. It's necessary to know the historical background of the time when the book was written. Sometimes knowing the writer's biography is crucial to fully appreciating the story. If it's a film, the director's style and symbols used in the film influence its final impression on you.

Jim: It sounds exciting. I've never thought of such things.

Leisure centre: At our leisure centre, we have a special club. If we are going to read a book or watch a film, we have lectures and seminars on the points I have just mentioned.

Jim: I'd love to become a member of this club. Is it free?

Leisure centre: It's free, but you'll have to get books. If you can't find it in your local library, you'll have to borrow it from somewhere or buy it. As for films, we watch them here.

Jim: That suits me perfectly.

Leisure centre: Take the form to fill in. Our classes are Tuesday and Friday, 5pm.
