Julie: Water colours are just not my cup of tea. I'd rather start with graphics. It doesn't require any expensive materials. In fact, you can start with a drawing pad and some pens.

Adam: I haven't thought about it. Watercolor and fluid art materials do cost a fortune. Well Julie, I think you should start with some proper classes then. If I were you, I'd call several art schools to find out if they offer the first class for free. At least you would see if the school atmosphere is suitable for you.

Julie: That's a great idea Adam. Thank you so much for your suggestion.

Alex: I'm not sure you can get anything this way. What if no one needs your services?

Mia: She says you are certainly able to do something that people need. She used to be a very successful psychotherapist, but she rarely trades her sessions now. When she was writing her book, she was living in a student residence. There she could sleep, have a shower, and use computers, in return for cooking for the other students who lived there.

Alex: How very interesting. Is she trying to prove that instead of a job you hate, you can do what you like and still be happy without many possessions?

Mia: Exactly. She only has some clothes and very few personal belongings and she says she is happy.

Alex: I say, Mia, can you please lend me the book? I'd love to read it.

Mia: I think I should finish it by the end of the week. I'll give you a call as soon as I've finished it so that you can borrow it.

Alex: Do you think you could live a month without any money at all?

Mia: When I'm reading the book, I think it's possible, but as soon as I put it aside, I start to doubt it. I can't imagine myself living in somebody else's house, doing services for them in return for being able to sleep in their house.

Alex: It must be very difficult to live like that. I can understand her motivation and her message, but this way of life doesn't suit most people.

Mia: Who knows? If everybody chose to live like that, it might be possible after all. At least the book makes us think about buying fewer things.

Chris: Well, you know, I've traveled a lot so far, and I've seen so many of the world's famous sites. I thought it was high time for me to do something good for other people.

Amy: You were a star, Chris. Please tell me more about your volunteering experience. Were the local people friendly to you?

Chris: I must say it was quite challenging at first. I mean, the language barrier and the living conditions and the climate. However, when you get to know the people better, you understand how friendly and supportive they are, and how they appreciate any help they get.

Amy: Did you have any time to have some rest? I know that Kenya has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Chris: Of course, I had some free time. No one can work 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I visited some gorgeous beaches and enjoyed snorkeling while in Kenya.

Amy: What was the food like there?

Chris: It was delicious. I enjoyed eating fresh seafood there.

Amy: Chris, I'm sure that you have wonderful memories about your time in Kenya.

Chris: You know, Amy, leaving my comfort zone was definitely good for me. I made a lot of friends among the locals and other volunteers while in Kenya. I very much miss the kids I taught there as well. I'll never forget my time there.

Amy: Well, maybe I should apply for some volunteer program too.

Chris: Why not? It's a good experience, I think. I'm thinking of going again next year. Perhaps you can join me?

Ann: Well, I think you'd better start with “Friends”. It's a hilarious series about six friends living in New York. There's not much action there, but the dialogues are superb, and the cast is just perfect.

Mike: I have never heard about this sitcom before, but what you are saying sounds interesting. Does it have many seasons?

Ann: There are ten seasons, about twenty-five episodes each. The episodes are relatively short though. They are only about thirty minutes long as far as I remember, so watching a season may take just a day or two.
